Soldiers kill man who shot another man

COTABATO CITY - A man was shot dead by Army Special Forces when he opened fire on government forces conducting patrol along a busy street here Tuesday afternoon.Senior Supt. Rolen Balquin, city police director, said before the man, identified as Unsing Kalipapa, 35 of Lebak, Sultan Kudarat,traded shots with soldiers, he shot and seriously wounded a certain Armand Kalim Dayato, 44 of Pikit, North Cotabato, Maguindanao at past 4 p.m. along Gutierrez Avenue.Dayato was standing near a pawnshop waiting for his companion when attacked.After shooting Dayato, the Kalipapa walked casually away from the crime scene but the incident created commotion forcing soldiers on patrolto respond.Seeing the soldiers, Kalipapa fired at the KM-45 vehicle of the Army Special Forces. Soldiers returned fire hitting the him in the head. He died instantly.The incident occurred near a busy intersection of Gutierrez Avenue and Sinsuat Avenue, Cotabato City.Dayato was rushed to the Cotabato Regional and Medical Center. He died hours later.Balquin said personal grudge could have been the motive of the attempted murder of Dayato. Balquin said relatives of Kalipapa were surprised to learn he was involved in the shooting incident. Relatives of Dayato, who claimed his remains and brought to Pikit Tuesday night,were also in disbelief he was shot.
