KORONADAL CITY - The number of malnourished children in this city rose to more than 1,000 in 2014 as compared to only 898 in 2013, the Koronadal City Nutrition Office today said.Veronica Daot, Koronadal City action officer, said last year's number of malnourished children aged 6 months to 12 years old was 1,096.Koronadal City has a population of 158,273 as of 2010 censu. The main reason was poverty, Daot said of the report. She said most of the children listed by the nutrition council were those living in the outskirts of the city who rely on farming as sources of income.Aside from lack of food, these children, Daot said, normally skip meals because they need to help parents in farming. To help reduce the number, the city nutrition office is intensifying its information and education campaign to educate parents and help address malnutrition. Regular supplemental feeding continues, Daot said.
