North Cotabato governor-elect offers hand of conciliation

North Cotabato elect Nancy Catamco has offered conciliatory leadership in North Cotabato, urging her rivals in the midterm elec­tions to set aside politics and rally her administration to bring the province to greater heights.

“I urge all candidates who did not make it in the recent polls to amplify con­cern for the public welfare, and respect the result of the elections. Let’s show to our people that we respect their decision,” Catamco said in a Visayan statement is­sued shortly after her proclamation last week.

Faith-based group seeks independent probe on poll glitches

A faith-based group has joined calls for an independent probe of technical glitches that marred the midterm elections, fuelling suspicions of fraud.

The Philippine Misereor Partnership Inc. (PMPI) said that the Commission on Elections must be held accountable for alleged poll irregularities.

“We will not rest until a proper investigation of these allegations of a fraudulent election and conspiracy is initiated,” PMPI said.

It said that glitches on the vote counting machines are substantiated by reports from their partners in communities.

2 women now governors in central Mindanao provinces

COTABATO CITY --- Two women, a blue-blooded Manuvu and the other a scion of the Maguindanaon royalty, are now governors of North Cotabato and Maguindanao, respectively.

Both provinces are home to Lumad, Christian and Muslim groups, stakeholders to the peace process of President Rodrigo Duterte with Moro secessionists now in peace with government and are helping address via governance the nagging community concerns in underdeveloped communities.

Gov. Toto pushes for reconciliation, healing after polls

COTABATO CITY – Outgoing Maguindanao Gov. Esmael “Toto” Mangudadatu, elected as Congressman for Maguindanao’s second district, yesterday said he will push for reconciliation of the Mangudadatu clans in Maguindanao and Sultan Kudarat.

“This is just politics, there should be no hatred, there should be no division,” Mangudadatu said after he was proclaimed by the Maguindanao provincial board of canvassers, headed by Atty. Ernie Palanan, Thursday morning.

IP leader wins North Cotabato gubernatorial race

KIDAPAWAN CITY – An Indigenous Peoples (IP) leader who was a three-termer national lawmaker was elected governor of North Cotabato.

Rep. Nancy Catamco, former representative of North Cotabato’s second district, was proclaimed at 5 a.m. today by the provincial board of canvassers after defeating her rival, Mayor Roger Talino of Carmen, North Cotabato by 3,531 votes.

Catamco got 272,249 votes as against Talino’s 268,718 votes.

Anti and Pro-BOL bets win protracted mayoral races

COTABATO CITY - A local chief executive who opposed the city’s inclusion into the Bangsamoro region has won the May 13 mayoral race but an outspoken counterpart in Basilan was not as lucky.

Mayor-elect Cynthia Guiani-Sayadi was first elected vice mayor here during the May 2016 polls and assumed as mayor after his older brother, Japal Guiani, Jr., died from an illness few weeks later.

Mar again lost in town named after grandpa

COTABATO CITY – Senatorial aspirant Mar Roxas was defeated again in a town in North Cotabato named after his grandfather, Pres. Manuel Roxas in this year’s elections.

Roxas of Liberal Party was at No. 18 with 2,447 votes in the ongoing tabulation for senatorial candidates by the Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas (KBP) and Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV).

Pres. Roxas’ 41 of 47 clustered precincts have been transmitted to Comelec.

Fewer cases of incidents during 2019 electoral period

COTABATO CITY --- Authorities recorded only 64 violent incidents related to the Monday's elections in southern provinces, much lower than the figures logged during the 2016 electoral season.

Army Lt. Gen. Arnel Dela Vega of the Western Mindanao Command said Tuesday there were 96 violent incidents related to the 2016 synchronized local and national elections in Regions 9, 10, 12 and in what is now the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, or BARMM.
