2 Army officers die in clash with Maute group in Marawi City
COTABATO CITY - An army intelligence officer and his subordinate were killed, while another one was severely wounded when they clashed against local terrorist group, the military said.Philippine Army spokesperson Col. Benjamin Hao said the incident took place around 5 p.m. in Barangay Lilud Madaya, Marawi City Thursday while agroup of Military Intelligence Group (MIG) 10 of Intelligence Service of the Armed Forces of the Philippines(ISAFP) were conducting surveillance operation.
Hao identified the slain soldiersas Major Jericho Mangalus and Corporal Bryan Libot. The third solider waswounded and identified asCorporal Rolando Cartilla.
Personnel of MIG were conducting surveillance operations inside a vehicle when they clashed against armed men of local terror group in another vehicle , Hao said.
Reports from Army’s 1st Army Division public affairs office saidthe firefight lasted for about 10 minutes. The personnel of the MIG-10 operatives were on a silver Isuzu Crosswind while the local terrorists belonging toMaute group were board on a Toyata Corolla car.
