3 die in MNLF-MILF clash in Matalam
KIDAPAWAN CITY - At least three members of the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) were killed when clashed with the members of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) in Matalam, North Cotabatoon New Years’ eve, police said. Senior Inspector Sunny Leoncito, Matalam police,said the incident happened in Barangay Kidama when the two groups accidentally crossed paths along the village roads. Leoncito identified the fatalities asDadrodin Ingkig, 27, Taya Akmad, 60 and a certain Marcial, 35. The town’s chief of police also confirmed that at least six houses were set on fire and 152 families of Barangay Kidama have evacuated to the village center.Residents of nearby Marbel village estimated at least 50 families also left their homes and stayed in the evacuation sites for their safety. The residents mostly Moro and some Christians celebrated New Year in the evacuation site due to incident. Mayor Oscar Valdevieso immediately rushed to the area along with the PNP and AFP to conduct dialogue between the two warring groups. Top commanders from both groups present in the dialogue along with provincial government representatives, LGU and top police and military officials. Matalam LGU also assisted the evacuees by sending food packs to separate evacuation sites in Barangay Kidama and Marbel. Valdevieso however advised the evacuees to remain in the evacuation sites while negotiation between warring families continue.
