Basit Usman, 4 foreign looking men sighted in Basilan?
Military and police officials in Mindanao are verifying reports that wanted Filipino bomb experts Abdul Basit Usman was sighted in Basilan island along with about 10 armed men, four of whom were foreign looking, the Philippine News Agency (PNA) reported today.Rear Admiral Reynaldo Yoma, commander of Joint Task Force Zambasulta (Zamboanga-Basilan-Sulu-Tawi-Tawi), said the military is verifying the report. Senior Superintendent Mario Buyuccan, Basilan police provincial director, has reported to PNP-ARMM that it also received the report over the weekend and has been verifying the presence of the country's most wanted man in the island province where the extremist Abu Sayaff Group operates.Usman, who carries a 1 million US dollars for his arrest, allegedly slipped out of Maguindanao last February after the military launched massive law enforcement operations against the lawless Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF).Usman, who was last seen on surveillance video with the slain Malaysian suspected terrorist Zulkifli Bin Hir alias Marwan a week before the Malaysian was neutralized by a police commando on January 26, used to stay in the jungles of Basilan preaching radical Islam on young Muslims.Earlier, a former Basilan mayor was quoted as saying that Usman and his group was sighted by Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) rebelsin the mountains of Tuburan in Basilan. The official did not say when the group was seen by the MILF.
