'Be polite to tourists,' Miguel to Koronadalenios
KORONADAL
CITY – The local government of Koronadal has appealed to its citizens to be
polite to tourists, especially foreigners, visiting the city.
Mayor Peter
Miguel issued the appeal after receiving report of the alleged rude treatment
of a sales lady and a cashier of a mall to a Kenyan national.
The visibly
upset Miguel said the Kenyan national who was not well versed in English was
appalled at the actuations of the mall employees.He did not identify the mall.
Speaking in
front of Koronadal City Hall employees during their regular flag raising
ceremony on Monday, Miguel ask various departments of local government to also
educate their clients on how to properly deal with the tourists.
There was
this one incident last Sunday, wherein a sales lady and cashier of a mall laugh
at this tall black man who cannot understand
ilonggo and cannot even speak English, the foreigner was insulted, he was a
visitor from Kenya,” Miguel said.
A staff of
the city information office said that the mayor had already reported the
incident to the management of the mall.
Aside from
the Palarong Pambansa which the city is hoping to host, visitors from 10
countries in Asia and Europe will arrive in Koronadal city next year for the
Council of International Organizations of Folklore Festivals and Folk Arts.
Miguel said
the city must be ready to face the anticipated influx of tourists.
In the
next few months many visitors will arrive in our place, please do not
discriminate them, let us look up to them as an opportunity, to learn, make
friends, and help our economy grow,” Miguel said.
