Blast hits NIA-12 office in North Cotabato

MIDSAYAP,
North Cotabato – A powerful improvised explosive device (IED) exploded
Wednesday dawn inside the compound of National Irrigation Administration
(NIA-12) regional office here, police said.
Another
IED was also found in the same compound following the 5 a.m. blast, according
to Supt. Reynante delos Santos, Midsayap police chief.
The
bomb attack came one day before the 37th foundation day anniversary of
NIA on Thursday.
Nobody
was hurt in the blast.Rex Torino of Radyo Bida DXMS reported that the blast caused minor damage to the NIA compound.Bomb experts
safely defused the second IED found in front of the Commission on Audit (COA)
office in the same NIA compound located along Barangay Villarica here.
NIA-12
Regional Director Ali Satol believed the bombing attempt was intentional and
meant to kill.
The
office is undergoing COA audit.
More than 10 years ago, a grenade
attack on a mosque occurred inside the NIA compound left then NIA-12 Director Makmod
Mending Sr. dead and several others wounded.
Delos Santos said investigation was
still on going while bomb experts are yet to determine the composition of the
IED.
