Boy, 10 drowns in Kabacan swimming resort

KABACAN, North Cotabato - It was a family excursion turned ugly.A grade-5 pupil from Bukidnon province drowned while swimming at theWater Land Resort in Barangay Osias, Kabacan on Thursday, police said.Sr. Inspector Jarwin Castroverde, Kabacan acting police chief, identified the victim as Claude Neko de Guzman Ortillo, resident of Kadingilan, Bukidnon.Castroverde said the Ortillo family visited Kabacan and had a swimming pool party when the accident happened. In the middle of the party at about noon, the 10-year-old boy went to the pool without the knowledge of his parentsand accidentally drowned. His remains was found at about 2 p.m. floating in the pool. Rescuers tried to revive him, to no avail. The boy was declared dead on arrival at a hospital.
