DOLE-12 info drive on private employees' compensation claim

KORONADAL CITY
(Sept. 17/NDBC) – An attached agency of the Department of Labor and Employment
(DOLE) in Region 12 on Tuesday hold advocacy seminar on employees’ compensation
program (ECP).

Present to
listen to the advocacy of the Employees Compensation Commission (ECC) were
information officers of regional government agencies and the local press.

Atty. Jonathan
Villasoto, ECC deputy director, said his office caters to employees working in
private agencies and in the government who suffered from accident, sickness or
death while performing duties.

Villasoto the
claimants could claim their benefits within a span three years.

He said employees
figured in accidents may file employees’ compensation claim to the Government
Service Insurance System or Social Security System.

Villasoto said
if the claim is denied, ECP will help the claimant avail the benefits with the
aid of the ECC-Quick response Team Program (ECTP). The agency could also assist
in the processing, he added.

Dr. Sarah
Concepcion, also of ECC, explained the importance of a deep analysis and
investigation of cases to determine the extent of assistance to concerned
employees.

She also added
some illnesses are not occupational and work-related. It can be determined
through research.

She also
mentioned the importance for employers to maintain an employer’s logbook to record
the employees’ day to day activities, including sickness, injuries,
disabilities and deaths.

ECC officials
also announced a program which aims to assist persons with disabilities in the
work place.

Dubbed Kagabay
Program” (Katulong at Gabay sa Manggagawang may Kapansanan), is a special
economic assistance program for occupationally-disabled workers (ODWs) who lost
employment by reason of work-related sickness or injury.

Ma. Cecilia
Maulion, ECC information officer, said ECC had been conducting ECP information
dissemination activity in every region of the country.

Maulion said
it aims to educate labor and management on the need to mitigate the incidence
of work-connected sickness, injuries and death.
