Driver hurt as gunmen strafed DPWH-12 vehicle in Maguindanao
DATU UNSAY, Maguindanao – A government driver was
injured when unidentified gunmen strafed a vehicle of the Department of Public
Works and Highways along the national highway here Thursday morning, the
military said.
Lt. Colonel Edgar Delos Reyes, commanding officer of 34th
Infantry Battalion, identified the victim as Virgilio Agad, 56, driver of
DPWH-12, who was hit in his left foot and is now undergoing treatment at the
Maguindanao provincial hospital in Shariff Aguak, Maguindanao.
Delos Reyes said Agad was driving a DPWH-owned Toyota Innova heading
for Koronadal City from Cotabato City to attend a Christmas Party along with
four others when gunmen opened fire in Barangay Meta, Datu Unsay, Maguindanao
at 11:40 a.m.
Despite the injury, Agad managed to drive the car away from
killing zone,” Delos Reyes said.
Motive of the incident remained unclear and police and military
investigation is still on going on.
