Farmer, cops foil bombing attempt of NGCP tower in N. Cotabato
CARMEN, North Cotabato – Police authorities
here foiled another bombing attempt by unidentified men of a steel pylon of the
National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) in Barangay Tacupan Sunday
morning.
Chief Inspector Julius Malcontento, Carmen town police
chief, said three improvised explosive devices (IEDs), attached to each other, were
found at the base of NGCP Steel Tower No. 110, located about 250 meters from
the Sayre Highway that links North Cotabato and Bukidnon.
Malcontento said the IED was fashioned from three 60
mm mortars and discovered by a farmer about 7 a.m. in the middle of a rubber
plantation.
We immediately cordoned off the area to prevent
farmers from getting closer to the steel tower,” Malcontento said, adding the
IEDs with mobile phone as triggering mechanism was safely defused at past 10:30
a.m.
No one has claimed responsibility.
