Fire hits Kidapawan public maket
KIDAPAWAN CITY
– A Thursday evening fire of still unknown origin destroyed six stalls of the
Kidapawan City public market, fire officials said.
City Fire Marshall
Darwin Custodio said arson investigators are still determining the exact amount
of damages after the 7:10 p.m. conflagration destroyed two carenderia, a barber
shop, an agri-veterinary supply store, a rice store and a bakeshop.
Fire
investigators said the fire erupted at the old terminal portion of the mega
market while portions of the city were experiencing power outage.
A witness told
DXND Radyo Bida the fire broke out in one of the two restaurants but fire
probers are yet to confirm it.
Custodio said
investigators are looking at possible electrical short circuit or arson as the
possible cause of the conflagration.
Custodio
lauded personnel of the market civil security unit who quickly alerted the fire
office.
He said the
timely response of firemen and emergency personnel prevented the spread of fire
to other establishments.
Custodio said his
office received the fire call at 7:15 and 10 minutes later, or 7:25 p.m. it was
placed under control.”
The fire chief
said the fire was quick because of light materials but was quickly put off by
firemen.
