Kabacan businessman, village chair trade shots, both die
KABACAN, North
Cotabato – As if a scene in an action movie, a village chair and a
businessman were both killed when they traded shots using cal. 45 pistols in Barangay
Poblacion here Saturday, police said today.
In what was
earlier reported as a duel, police said businessman Clemente Molina, 59, of Plang
village, Barangay Poblacion Kabacan had been searching for Village chair Jerry
Manalo of Barangay Aringay, Kabacan, North Cotabato and shot the later when
their path crossed.
A long
standing personal grudge between the two triggered the shooting,” Supt. Jordine
Maribojo, Kabacan police chief, said.
Maribojo said police
investigation showed Molina had been searching for Manalo the past four days
for still unknown reason.
On Saturday at
about 11 in the morning, Chairman Manalo arrived in the house of a friend,
Isagani Pasion along Quirino Street, Kabacan.
But Molina also
arrived and went directly inside Pasion’s home. Without provocation he shot
Manalo in the chest using his cal. 45 pistol.
As the wounded
Manalo fell, he pulled his cal. 45 pistol and returned fire three times, hitting
the businessman in the head, body and leg.
Witnesses said
the trader tried to fire more shots but his pistol malfunctioned, giving the
fallen village chair the chance to return fire.
Molina died on
the spot.
Witnesses
rushed Manalo to Kabacan Medical Specialist Center but expired about 30 minutes
later.
Police probers
remained clueless what grudge both victims were locked into.
