KIDAPAWAN CITY — The sole power distributor in the entire province of North Cotabato could not assure its close to 100,000 concessionaires if its office is implementing rotational brownouts on Sunday, especially during the fight of eight division world boxing champion Manny Pacquiao. Enteng Baguio, Cotabato Electric Cooperative (Cotelco) spokesperson, said since last week the Cotelcoservice area have beenexperiencing one to two hours rotational brownout due to power shortage supplied by the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) to Mindanao Grid. We cannot assure our power consumers since our cooperative is depending on the advice of NGCP regarding power curtailment,” Baguio said in a phone interview. Baguio appealed to consumers of understanding for they do not have any control of the power shortages that hit North Cotabato province since last week. On our part, as much as possible we don’t want this to happen because we also understand the plight of our consumers as well as the business sectors affected by the curtailment,” Baguio explained. John Lester Dimasuhid, an avid fan of boxing icon Pacquiao, prayed that if there is power curtailment it will not happen during the height of the fight so that he can also watch via cable television. Please do it in the afternoon after the fight of Pacquiao so that I can fully watch my idol’s fight against Algerie,” Dimasuhid appealed. This is just a rare opportunity for us avid fan of Manny Pacquiao, so please implement the power curtailment in the afternoon of in the evening,” Dimasuhid added. In Mlang, North Cotabato, the Local Government Unit (LGU) has sponsored a free screening of Pacquiao-Algerie bouts via pay-per-view at the town’s rooftop. Ferdinand Pinol the town’s administrator, said close to 300 constituents will be accommodated to watch free of charge Pacquiao’s fight against Algerie. Some of our constituents have their respective cable connections that they no longer need to go to our town hall roof top to watch the fight,” Pinol said. For those who have none, they can come over. Pinol said the LGU has also installed television with cable connections to public terminals to give chance for the drivers and commuters to also watch the most awaited fight of the Filipino boxing icon. Let us just pray that there is no power interruption tomorrow. Let us also pray that our Filipino boxer will again become triumphant against his opponent,” Administrator Pinol said. Here, some tricycle drivers have already scheduled not to ferry passengers during the whole duration of the fight tomorrow. Hermie Duga-duga, a member of Kidapawan Integrated Tricycle Association (KITA) said some of his fellow drivers agreed to stop operation and instead stay at their terminal to watch Manny Pacquiao’s fighting against the opponent. Siyempre Pilipino gud na suportahan dyud nato na.” Duga-duga said.
