Part of vintage bombs, similar to the above file photo by aklanforum.blogspot.com, was found in Kidapawan City.

KIDAPAWAN CITY
– A construction worker accidentally stumbled upon what appeared to be a mortar
round while digging Thursday afternoon.

Edwin
Liberato, a construction worker, said he was already about four feet deep when
he hit something hard. He thought it was a mortar round.

Fear it might
explode, Liberato quickly back off and reported his discovery to colleagues.

Members of the
Army bomb disposal team said what Liberato found was only a part of the mortar
round which was estimated to be about 40 years buried on the ground. They said it will not explode anymore.

A bomb expert
said the mortar could have been buried by soldiers in the past since the
construction site used to be an Army camp.

Bomb experts
took custody of it for study.
