Midsayap cops arrest robber-carnapper after highway mishap
COTABATO CITY -- A former house helper of a government employee here thought he succeeded in robbing his former employer Tuesday nightof jewelry, electronic gadgets and his biggest catch - a brand newMitsubishi Montero vehicle.But the turn of events landed him in the hospital in Midsayap, North Cotabato.Police said Steve Tomian Montenegro, 18 of Tulunan, North Cotabato was a former house help of Omar Kusain, an employee of the Department of Agriculture and resident of De Mazenod Avenue, Cotabato City.Kusain told police that Montenegro returned to his former employer and robbed him of about P100,000 worth of jewelry, gadgets and mobile phones and cash amounting to P29,000.To make his escape quick and could bring him to far away place,Montenegro also took Kusain's Mitsubishi Montero (license plate AOA-1845)vehicle and drove off to North Cotabato.But at about 2 a.m. Wednesday, the Montero vehicle crashed along Midsayap highway in Barangay Poblacion 8and rescuers rushed Montenegro to a hospital.Supt. Tom Tuzon, Midsayap town police chief, said police were unaware at first that Montenegro did not own the vehicle and that it was carnapped in Cotabato City.Police only learned of the robbery when Cherry Ann Blanco, a relative of vehicle owner, showed up at the hospital and police station to tell the story.
