NorCot farmers get agri-tourism package from DA-12
KIDAPAWAN
CITY – Farmers of two remote villages in Alamada and Makilala, both
in North Cotabato, are set to receive Agri-Tourism Package from the Department
of Agriculture (DA-12).
This
after the provincial farmers won the National Organic Agriculture Achievers Award last
September.
Eliseo
Mangliwan, North Cotabato provincial agriculturist, said his office has
received a P500,000 cash award from DA-12 and recommended to Gov. Emmylou
Mendoza to make use of the fund for the establishment of Organic Strawberry
Production in Barangay Dado, Alamada and Organic Vegetable Production in
Barangay New Israel, Makilala.
Mangliwan
said through the Agri-tourism package the farmers are expected to become
productive and produce more agricultural products.
Aside
from agricultural input assistance like seedlings and fertilizers, the farmers
are qualified to undergo training seminars and production inputs for planters.
Mangliwan’s
suggestion to use the funds for more agriculture initiatives was welcomed by
Gov. Mendoza who earlier directed the office of the provincial agriculturist to
ensure farmers in the province are provided with assistance in any form.
Mendoza
also lauded the provincial agriculturist office and the successive feats earned
by the farmers not only at regional level but national scene as well.
