One hurt in Cotabato City grenade attack
COTABATO CITY - One person was hurt when two unidentified men tossed a fragmentation grenade in front of a fast food along Sinsuat Avenue Thursday night.Supt. Rex Anongos, city police director, told DXMS Radyo Bida thattwo men riding tandem on a motorbike tossed the grenade at about 8 p.m. that injured the driver of the owner of Sugar Pappi coffee shop.Anongos identified the victim asAlbert Pancho, 47, Rosary Heights 2, Cotabato Cityand driver of White Fortuner (LFU-494) owned by establishment owner. Some witnesses saw the two men hurled the grenade but could hardly identify them because it was dark, Anongos said of the incident that occurred minutes after the power was restored.Some parts of the city have experienced power outages Thursday night.Responding police and Army Special Forcesrecovered the safety lever of MK-2 fragmentation grenade.No one has claimed responsibility.Anongos said the owner who he did not identity told investigators he has no idea why the establishment was subjected to grenade attack.But Army Colonel Ranulfo Sevilla, commander of theArmy Special Forces said the possible motive of the grenade attack was extortion. I was told the owner received extortion demand but was ignored, he said.
