OWWA ready to extend aid to families of slain Tulunan OFW
KIDAPAWAN CITY
– The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) in Region-12 said the
family of killed Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) from Tulunan, North Cotabato is
assured of financial aid from the government agency.

Director Marilou Sumalinog said the family of Mary Ann Gemotra, who mysteriously
died on September 19 while working as domestic house help to an Arab couple in
Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, is qualified forOWWA assistance.
She said the
family of Gemotra can avail of P120,000 death claim, livelihood package and
scholarship for her eldest child.
OWWA is still
working on her remains’ repatriation and Sumalinog said it may take two to three
months. She said Gemotra’s employer have to shoulder the expenses in sending her
back home while her local recruitment agency will pay the expenses upon her
remains’ arrival in Gen. Santos City until Tulunan, North Cotabato.
Gemotra’s
family believed there was a foul play on her death but her employer told
embassy officials she committed suicide.
Gemotra’s
sister claimed she was maltreated by her employer and managed to inform her
relatives back home before she mysteriously died.
