Pikit civilians foil bombing attempt

PIKIT, North Cotabato-- Police and military authorities have launched manhunt against two men who left an improvised explosive device along a busy street here Friday night.Alert civilians quickly alerted the Pikit PNP after a suspicious box, left by two men on a motorbike, was found unattended.Responding police and Army bomb experts backed by bomb sniffing dogs confirmed the explosive and safely defused at past 10 p.m.DXND Radyo Bida reported the IED was fashioned from rocket propelled grenade with mobile phone as trigger mechanism.Police said the bomb was left in front of a house of a certain Robert Sahid along Datu Piang Street, Poblacion Pikit.The presence of Task Force Pikit, a multi-sectoral agency formed to restore normalcy town, forced the bomber to abandon the IED, a police officer told DXND Radyo Bida Kidapawan.
