Security officials meet to address threats of NorCot irrigation dam

COTABATO CITY - Security and irrigationofficials in North Cotabato met Thursday to discuss security of the areas multi-million irrigation dam project.RAdyo Bida Cotabato City reported Friday themeeting came after intelligence reports showed lawless elements have hatched a plan to attack the Malitubog-Maridagao (MalMar) irrigation project.Also convened were thepeace and order councils of Pikit and Aleosan, North Cotabato.Local officials have recommended the deployment of more soldiers in the project site to prevent extortionists from mulcting various contractors and sub-contractors of the project.Extortion gangs threatened to burn heavy equipment of the contractors for its failure to comply with the extortion demand.The MalMar irrigation project aims to irrigate more than 30,000 hectares of rice fields in the North Cotabato and Maguindanao.
