SK PNP forms task force to probe killing of MILF leader, councilman
TACURONG CITY– Police authorities in Tacurong City has formed a special
investigation task group to look into the killing of a Moro Islamic Liberation
Front (MILF) commander and a barangay councilor in Barangay Romualdez,
President Quirino town last week.
Earlier, relatives of the slain victims and a militant group, Suara Bangsamoro, have separately appealed for police to dig deeper into the killing to prevent escalation of the incident.Speaking to a local radio station,Senior
Supt. Rex dela Rosa, Sultan Kudarat police provincial director, said
investigation has been going on following the killing of Manubaka Abdul,
commander of the MILF's 108th base command, and Abdulkadir Maslamama,a councilman in Barangay
Mikonding in General Salipada K. Pendatun town in Maguindanao.
The
two were riding tandem on a motorbike when the suspects, on board separate
motorbike, fired at them in a highway in President Quirino, Sultan Kudarat.
Abdul andMaslamama were heading to Tacurong City after his son sought his help because unidentified men were allegedly tailing him. On their way to Barangay Katiko, Pres. Quirino,Sultan Kudarat, they were ambushed.Dela Rosasaid local police investigators have difficulty gathering information since the
families of the victims refused to cooperate fully with the investigation.Initial
police investigation showed the motive of the ambush was more of a personal
grudge involving the local officials and an unidentified Muslim clan in Gen. SK
Pendatun town.
According
to dela Rosa, the victims’ families live in an area where the outlawed
Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters also reside.
He
said the creation of task force will help fast track the investigation because
it will involve police units even outside the jurisdiction of Sultan Kudarat
PNP and with the military.
In a
statement, the MILF said it will help the police in the investigation to give
justice to the fallen MILF field commander and his son who was also a local
official of Maguindanao.
