South Cotabato law breakers, now coffin makers
KORONADAL CITY
- Prisoners in South Cotabato Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center here
are now earning a living for the dead.
Coffin-making
is the recent project that make provincial rehabilitation center inmates have
been busy about, according to Felisito Gumapac, acting provincial jail warden.
The materials
used by the inmates in making coffins were provided by the provincial
government.
Gumapac said the
coffins are part of the burial assistance the provincial government have been
giving to its indigent residents.
For every
coffin they make, the provincial government is paying P350 pesos to our
inmates,” Gumapac told NDBC Koronadal Monday.
Since the
implementation of the project last June, prisoners at the SCPRDC have made at
least 100 coffins with poor residents in remote villages as the main
beneficiary.
Aside from making
coffin inmates at the facility are also known for making Christmas decorations
made of indigenous materials.
