South Cotabato veterinary office warns vs. heat stroke on livestocks
KORONADAL CITY - Like humans, animals also suffer the agonizing heat during the prolonged drought that hit Mindanao, the South Cotabato provincial veterinary office today said.Easily affected by heat stroke due to the dry spell are hogs and cows, according to Flora Bigot, acting chief ofprovincial veterinary office. She advised hog traders to transport the animals at dawn or before sunrise to save the animal from heat stroke. Two hog farms are producing 12,000 metric tons of meat in 2014. Bigot feared the dry spell would affect the poultry industry To avoid heat stroke among livestock, owners must ensure steady supply of water and food for the animals. She also advised hog owners and other work animals to let them undergo de-worming and provide vitamins to survive the dry spell.
