Strong winds, light rain have come to Mlang amid drought
MLANG, North
Cotabato - Along awaited rain has finally come Sunday night to
this town already under state of calamity due to drought.
And it came
with a bang, destroying at least 15 houses in the village of Buayan, according
to Mlang Mayor Joselito Pinol.
Pinol said the houses
were made of light materials and semi-concrete.
Four houses were totally destroyed. Strong winds
accompanied the downpour thus many houses were destroyed in the hour-long
downpour which started at 3 p.m.
Pinol said the
town’s disaster office is still assessing the damage brought by strong winds
and downpour.
More than P40
million of agricultural crops have been damaged in Mlang along while another
P30 million worth of assorted crops were damaged in its neighbour, the town of
Kabacan.
The strong
winds and moderate to heavy downpour that hit Buayan village proceeded to Kabacan
town where it uprooted Ipi-Ipil, Acacia and Bamboo trees.
Nobody was
hurt in the incident.
Both Mlang and
Kabacan town councils have separately placed its locality under state of
calamity due to drought to allow the use of calamity fund to assist the
affected farmers.
