Tacurong intensifies barangay disaster preparedness
TACURONG
CITY -The local government here has rescue team in another
village, in addition to the two existing barangay-based rescue teams in
Tacurong City to strengthen its disaster preparedness capacity.The
Barangay New Carmen Rescue Team (NCRT) is now being trained by the Tacurong
Responsive Assistance and Coordinated Emergency Response Team (TRACER). The
5-day training for 21 potential members of the New Carmen Rescue Team started today
16 males and five females representing different sectors in Barangay New
Carmen.Among
them are public school teachers, barangay civilian volunteers, and barangay
health workers.Through
the training, the new rescue team learned basic life support, basic first aid,
and casualty handling.
Participants
were also trained on skills necessary for search and rescue such as ropemanship
(rapelling, high line), and swimming. Swimming lessons are conducted in
Polomolok, South Cotabato.
Their
final drill, the one-mile swim, will be conducted on November 8 in General
Santos City.
Barangay
San Pablo Emergency Response Team (SPERT) assisted TRACER in the conduct of the
said training. SPERT and Barangay New Isabela Rescue Team (NIRT) are
the first two barangay-based rescue teams in the city.On
November 9-13, potential members of Barangay Rajah Muda Rescue Team will also
undergo the same training.The
Tacurong City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (CDRMMC) aims to
equip all 20 barangays for disaster preparedness, prevention, response, and
rehabilitation.
In
August 2014, TRACER was recognized as Best Government Emergency Response
Management by the Regional CDRRMC.
