KORONADAL CITY - It's final. The South Cotabato provincial government has shut the door for open pit mining in South Cotabato.This after the South Cotabato provincial board upheld the implementation of the provincial environmental code that prohibits open pit mining in response to calls by pro-mining advocates to abolish the local law.Provincial Board Member Ellen Grace Subere Albios, chair of the SP committee on environment, said all the members of the provincial legislature endorsed and approved her committee recommendation.Speaking to DXOM-AM Radyo Bida Tuesday, Subere-Albios said the legislative members' action was anchored on the safety of the people of South Cotabato, the preservation of environment, biodiversity and water sources.She said mining per se is allowed but open pit mining is strictly banned.South Cotabato Gov. Daisy Avance Fuentes threw her full support to the SP action for the sake of the people of South Cotabato and its people.
