6th ID probes soldier in mall incident

CAMP SIONGCO, Maguindanao -- The 6th Infantry Division is now investigating a lady soldier who accidentally fired her gun while withdrawing it at the deposit area of South Seas Mall last Sunday.Capt. Joann Petinglay, spokesperson of the 6th ID, said division commanderMaj. Gen. Emundo Pangilinan, has ordered an investigation on the incident. We are investigating it and you will know the results soon, Petinglay said in Filipino over DXMS Radyo Bida.Based on the police investigation report, a certain Private First Class Michelle Ortega was about to withdraw her cal. 40 pistol from the deposit box of the mall when it accidentally fired.She was holding her gun pointed downward, an basic procedure, when it went off with the bullet hitting the floor tiles.Fragments of the floor tiles injured a 14-year-old boy who was standing nearby. Ortega rushed the victim to the hospital.
