Magnitude 5 quake hits Davao Occidental

COTABATO CITY - A magnitude 5 earthquake hit Saranggani town in Davao Occidental Thursday afternoon, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) today said.In its bulletin, Phivolcs said the 4:34 p.m.quake, which was tectonic in origin, was traced 72 kilometers South-East of Saranggani town and has a depth of 8 kilometers.No casualty or damage to property was reported but Phivolcs said aftershocks are expected.The Davao Occidential quake occurred about 11 hours after an Magnitude 7.9 earthquake hit Chile which is facing the Philippines across the Pacific Ocean.Phivolcs issued tsunami alert early Thursday.
