For the second time, 2 inmates tried, failed to bolt S. Cotabato jail
KORONADAL CITY -- For the second time, two detainees tried to bolt the South Cotabato provincial rehabilitation and detention center.And for the second time, they failed.At about 2:45 a.m. Tuesday, inmatesRyan Paguirda and Jonathan Campong, both facing charges for violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act, attempted to escape.Using blankets made into ropes with iron hooks, the two quietly and slowly crawled out of their cell when alert jail guards noticed them.When accosted, the two attempted to slug it out with the jail officers until one of the guards fired warning shots, according toOIC Provincial Jail Warden Juan Lanzaderas.Lanzaderas told DXOM-AM Radyo Bida that one of the two tried to grab the guards firearm. He failed.Paguirda and Campong along with two other detainees tried to bolt the same detention facility last August 2015. All four were re-arrested.Following the incident, Lanzaderas ordered regular surprise inspection of detention cells to seize illegal items like bladed weapons or materials that the inmate could use in bolting the facility.
