Former Chief Justice Renato Puno

KIDAPAWAN CITY
– Former Chief Justice Renato Puno favors changes in the Philippine
Constitution for the Bangsamoro Basic Law.

Puno, who was
here to attend a conference of the United Methodist Church where he was a
member, said it may take some time before the draft law becomes a law.

With that, he
said, there is a need to amend the Constitution before passing the bill into
law.

Various groups
have expressed opposition to charter change saying it was a ploy to extend
President Aquino’ stay in Malacanang. The draft BBL now in Congress, once a law, will be the enabling law in the creation of a Bangsamoro government as a result of the government peace process with the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF).
