KIDAPAWAN CITY
– The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) in Region 12 has assured
the government will provide financial assistance and other benefits to the
relatives of slain Overseas Filipino Worker in Singapore.

Marilou
Sumalinog, OWWA-12 regional administrator, also confirmed Rosalie Cabangon of
New Antique,Mlang, North Cotabato, was a legitimate OFW and has records with
OWWA-12.

Cabangon died
after she allegedly collapsed while working as domestic helper in Singapore a
day after she told her aunt in Mlang that she was okay and doing fine.

The remains of
Cabangon, a single mom, arrived the other day in Barangay New Antique with her
family seeking for answers why she passed away.

Sumalinog said
her office is waiting for documentary requirements from Cabangon’s family
before the assistance could be released.

Sumalinog said
Cabangon’s only child is qualified to a scholarship grant from OWWA on top of
‘Kabuhayan package” to be awarded to her family.

Her child is
under the care of her sister in New Antique.
Sumalinog said OWWA is requiring an affidavit of guardianship so the
child can be included in OWWA scholarship program.

Sumalinog said
her office is coordinating with OWWA
Manila to check on why the remains had no accompanying autopsy report and with
the Bureau of Customs since it withheld Cabangon’s personal belongings.
