COTABATO
CITY - The Office of Civil Defense in Region-12 raised its alert status to its
highest ahead of the possible entry of Typhoon Ruby in the region.
Disaster
officials in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) also placed its
disaster workers on 24/7 alert in case the Typhoon brings heavy downpour to
Maguindanao or Lanao del Sur.
Roy
Durado, OCD-12 chief trainer, also urged the public not to entertain text
messages purporting a disaster is in the offing.
He
said information from the official weather bureau should be entertained and
consider by the public.
In the
ARMM, Lawyer Laisa Alamia, ARMM executive secretary, said the regional disaster
risk reduction and management teams from the region to the provincial and
municipal level have been alert.
Maguindanao
and Cotabato City are the catch basin of flood water from the provinces of
North Cotabato, Davao del Sur, Sultan Kudarat and South Cotabato thus people
residing around or within the marsh are vulnerable to floods.
