BASILAN - A five year-old boy was badly hurt in an attack Monday by ten stray dogs in Isabela City.
The incident was first reported Monday morning by station dxNO in Isabela City.
A photo of the badly injured child on a hospital bed immediately went viral on social media.
Some 300 residents have reportedly been bitten by dogs in Isabela City in recent weeks, according to dxNO.
In a statement, mayor-elect Sitti Djalia Turabin-Hataman said she heard of the problem on stray dogs in Isabela City during her campaign sorties in the barangays prior to the May 13 elections.
“This incident calls our attention to the urgency of the issue,” Turabin Hataman said.
She said there is a need for the local government unit of Isabela City to strictly enforce Republic Act 9482, also known as the Anti-Rabies Act of 2007 enjoining local government units and barangay officials to cooperate in protecting constituents from dog bites and rabies infection.
“This incident strengthened our resolve to implement that law,” Turabin-Hataman said.
