Kidapawan City village exec survives ambush

KIDAPAWAN CITY  – A village chair in Kidapawan City miraculously survived an early evening ambush by still unidentified gunmen in his own village Tuesday, police said today.

Colonel Ramel Hojilla, Kidapawan City police director, identified the victim as Albert Espina, 38 and chairperson of Barangay Sto. Niño, Kidapawan City.

Hojilla said Espina was driving his Toyota Hi-Lux pick-up vehicle heading for home with his wife and a child at 7 p.m. when flagged down by still unidentified gunmen along dimly lit barangay road in Purok 7.

One of the two suspects opened fire on him using cal. 45 pistol.

Espina sustained bullet wounds on his elbow and shoulder and is now recuperating at a private hospital.

Hojilla said the chairman’s wife and child were unharmed.

Motive and identifies of the attackers remained unknown as of posting as investigation continues.
