ARMM now has well-trained emergency volunteers, official says
CAMP SIONGCO,
Maguindanao – The Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) a
calamity-stricken region, is now ready to respond to calamities after hundreds
of volunteers finished rescue training at the Army’s training institute.
The volunteers will
form part of the ARMM’s Humanitarian Emergency Action Response Team (HEART),
according to Lawyer Laisa Alamia, ARMM executive secretary.
Colonel Bernie
Langub, 6th Infantry Divison Training School director, said the
graduates are now fully equip they can respond in any emergency in air, land
and sea.
There’s no
stronger than the heart of volunteers, now they can respond to any calamity,”
Langub said. They were trained to respond to seas, land and air emergency.”
Alamia said the
volunteers are on standby and ready to respond should their expertise is needed
in the on-going forest fire that hit the country’s highest peak.
Alamia said they
were trained to respond to man-made and natural calamities which are common in
the region composed of the provinces of Maguindanao, Lanao del Sur, Basilan,
Sulu and Tawi-Tawi.
She said the training
for volunteers was conceptualized to respond to possible effects of Climate
Change like massive flooding and forest fire. (Ferdinandh Cabrera)
