Army considers Matalam villagers' request
KIDAPAWAN CITY
(Sept. 12/NDBC) – Army authorities are considering the request of villagers in
Matalam, North Cotabato for the establishment of an Army detachment.

Gamos, chief Charlie Company of the 7th Infantry Battalion, said the
desire of residents of Barangay Estado, Matalam, North Cotabato was valid and
being considered.
Residents have
sought Army presence in the village after armed men traded bullets last Sunday
that disrupted the quite farming community.
Authorities
see land dispute triggered the skirmishes. Nobody was hurt in the day-long
exchange of bullets.Gamos said the
7th IB is considering the existing ceasefire agreement between the
government and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF).
He said his
unit has three detachments in the Matalam-Mlang area and these arein Mlang airport, Barangay Malamote and Barangay
Patadon, Matalam.
Gamos
explained when Army base is established in Barangay Estado, it has to abandon
Malamote or Patadon detachment.
In the
meantime, Barangay Estado residents have to wait until higher headquarters”
approved the request. (NDBC)
