Rev. Mark Yoniz Capili Beley, OMI - Deacon
Rev. MARK YONIZ CAPILI BELEY, OMI is the sixth child of nine children born to Marianito Beley and Erlinda Capili in Sta. Rosa, Nueva Ecija. Two of his cousins and an uncle are priests who awakened his awareness about priestly vocation as a child. This awareness grew into an interest when he served as a sacristan” in their local parish in his early youth. With scholarly attitude tempered with kindness of heart, Yoniz graduated from San Beda College Manila and was employed for five (5) years in the field of human resource development. Afterwards, he felt the call to expand the breadth and depth of serving others. Having achieved his personal goals, Yoniz pursued his goal of serving communities, especially the poor. His personal account of his Oblate vocation followsand I learned of the missionary congregation of the Oblates of Mary Immaculate through Fr. Reynaldo Roda, OMI’s story which was featured on the television program, The Correspondents.” I believe it was providential. I was at that time in the stage of choosing which congregation to join and Fr. Rey’s story came up. The O.M.I. whom I never heard of before was featured on TV just when I needed to decide which congregation to join. The simplicity of the congregation and their noble work in the margins of the society, as well as the daring and selfless martyrdom of Fr. Rey encouraged me to join the Oblates. When my brother asked me which congregation I was joining, I told him, I wanted to join a very simple community who serves very simple communities.” I believe God led me to the Oblates – a simple community serving the simplest communities, and I am truly grateful.Despite having received the prestigious award of Summa Cum Laude” from the Loyola School of Theology - Ateneo de Manila University this year and the opportunity to address his fellow graduates as the class valedictorian, Yoniz remains unaffected and humble. His striking deep-seated dark eyes match the intensity with which he attends to his assignment among the Indigenous Peoples of Blala, Upi. The Oblate character of service to the poor and most abandoned has been instilled in Yoniz and kept alive. The stirring words of his father when he gave Yoniz his blessing to join the Oblates and go to Mindanao, reaffirmed the Divine Father’s spirit in the life of Yoniz. His father said, That is the noblest act you will ever do in your life, Anak.” On his part, Yoniz has this to say, I believe in my father’s words and kept these in my heart. It continues to inspire me in my vocation as an Oblate religious missionary priest.” Yoniz was ordained deacon by the Most Rev. Angelito Lampon, OMI,. DD – Apostolic Vicar of Jolo on December 3rd, 2015 at the Our Lady of the Assumption Scholasticate in Quezon City. (moss)
