NorCot scholars get allowance

KIDAPAWAN CITY – About 862
scholars of the Provincial Scholarship Program (PSP) of North Cotabato over the
weekend received their allowances on three separate venues in the three
districts of the province.Norito Mazo, community affairs officer and PSP focal person, facilitated the release of allowances together with
the personnel of the provincial treasurer’s office (PTO) at the ABC Hall of
Midsayap Cotabato for District I, University of Southern Mindanao for District
II and Provincial Capitol Rooftop for District III. Each scholar received not less
than P6,000 allowance which covers the 1st semester of the school
year 2014-2015, Mazo said. He said the allowances will
help the scholars meet their expenses, liketransportation allowance.One of the scholars,Marlon Marcelino, 4th year
Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education in USM, Kabacan, said he will no
longer worry about his everyday expenses in school and he can now buy
additional things he needed.
I am very thankful to the PSP and to Gov.
Emmylou Lala” J. Taliño-Mendoza for giving us the opportunity to become
scholars, finish our studies and contribute to the development of our
communities,” Marcelino said in an interview made by the Aksiyon Serbisyong
Totoo” radio program of the Provincial Government of Cotabato.

Another scholar, Rudy Velez, Jr., taking up
Bachelor of Science in Engineering and now in his 2nd year at the
Colegio de Kidapawan, (CDK) said he couldn’t thank Gov. Taliño-Mendoza enough for
the chance to be part of the PSP.
I want to thank Gov. Taliño-Mendoza for
ensuring our welfare as students. The
PSP is an opportunity for us to enter college without any cost and we also
benefit from the allowance given to us,” Velez said.Provincial Ordinance No. 508 series of 2012,
the enabling law for the scholarshop program, aims to provide free and quality
education to poor but deserving students in the Province of Cotabato. Free
and quality education for our youth is one of the primary endeavors of the Provincial
Government of Cotabato where we give prominence to those who cannot afford to
enroll but are qualified and aspire to finish education,” Gov. Taliño-Mendoza
said.
She
also encouraged the PSP scholars to focus and concentrate on their studies as
this will be their stepping stone towards success in the future.The
PSP caters to around 1,179 students enrolled in different universities and
colleges in Cotabato such as the University of Southern Mindanao (USM) in
Kabacan, Southern Christian College (SCC) and Notre Dame of Midsayap College
(NDMC) in Midsayap, Southern Baptist College (SBC) in M’lang, Cotabato
Foundation College of Science and Technology (CFCST) in Arakan, Notre Dame of
Kidapawan College (NDKC) and Colegio de Kidapawan (CDK) in Kidapawan City and
other leading schools in the province.
About 305 of the scholars are set to graduate
next March.
