Phivolcs record 2 aftershocks after Zambo quake
COTABATO CITY - The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) today said it recorded two aftershocks Monday nightafter a magnitude 6.1 tremorthat hit Zamboanga peninsula Monday afternoon.After the 5:29 p.m. earthquake traced 205 kilometers east of Zamboanga City, a magnitude 3.4aftershock was recorded at 6:54 p.m. followed by a magnitude 3.1 tremor at 7:58 p.m., both traced 205 km east of Zamboanga City.The first quake has a depth of 29 kilometer while the two aftershocks have a depth of 22 km and 33 km, respectively.Phivolcs said the earthquake was tectonic in origin or the movement of earth plate west of Zamboanga peninsula.Intensity IV was felt in Zamboanga City,Intensity III - Dumaguete City, Bayawan City,Negros Oriental, Isabela and Lamitan, Basilan. Intensity II - Sibulan, Negros Oriental Iloilo City San Juan and Siquijor, Siquijor,Oroquieta City, Misamis Occidental Dipolog City, Zamboanga del NorteSan Jose, Tobias-Fornier and Culasi, Antique Jolo, Sulu.Intensity I - Busay, Cebu La Carlota City, Negros Occidental Lugait and Canlaon, Negros Oriental.Other areas in Mindanao also experienced earthquake Monday night. A magnitude 4.5 earthquake also hit Saranggani in Davao Occidentalandwas recorded at 8:09 p.m. and traced 285 kilometers away from mainland Mindanao.No casualty was reported in all tremors.
