NAIA ops halted due to ash clouds from Taal eruption

MANILA -- Due to the presence of volcanic ash clouds on major traffic airways, the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) temporarily suspended flights to/from the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) on Sunday night. 

In an advisory, CAAP spokesperson Eric Apolonio said a Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) was issued suspending departing flights from NAIA from 6:22 p.m. to 11 p.m., and arriving flights from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m.

Classes in Metro Manila suspended due to Taal eruption

MANILA – Classes at all levels in Metro Manila on Monday (January 13) has been suspended due to ash fall from the phreatic eruption of Taal Volcano.

In an advisory on Sunday, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) said the suspension of classes include all 17 cities within Metro Manila, aside from the southern provinces Cavite and Batangas, as well as Santa Rosa and Biñan, Laguna.

Injured baby serpent eagle rescued in Kidapawan City

KIDAPAWAN CITY — A couple rescued on Friday afternoon an injured baby eagle and turned it over to a local radio station.

Rebeca Bacat and her husband were walking by the roadside in Barangay Luvimin when they heard a loud chirping coming from a bushy area near rows of rubber trees.

She followed the source of the chirping and found the wounded baby bird, which she described as "looking like an eagle."

“I picked it up and wrapped it in handkerchief and turn it over to dxND Radio station,” Bacat said.

MGB-12 supports declaring Asik-Asik Falls as NGM

 

In support to the proposal to declare Asik-Asik Falls as a national geological monument, personnel of the Mines and Geosciences Bureau XII, led by MGB 12 OIC Regional Director Felizardo A. Gacad Jr., visited the wondrous site at Alamada, North Cotabato on December 11, 2019.

OIC RD Gacad and the team ventured on the winding stairs that descends and ascends around the mountain side of the area. A portion of the falls can be seen from afar and only after the team descended that they encountered the majestic falls and its lush greenery that covers the entire landscape.

DENR execs order probe of discovery of dead sperm whale in Sarangani

Dead Sperm Whale found in Sarangani Bay  

GLAN, SARANGANI PROVINCE - Environment officials have ordered an investigation into the discovery of a dead male Sperm Whale (Physeter macrocephalus) by fishermen along Gumasa town in SArangani.

Fishermen in the area said that they have already noticed the floating dead whale before it was stranded in the Crystal Beach Resort in Barangay Gumasa on Sunday, November 24.

MP Candao lauds BARMM’s deployment of forest rangers

COTABATO CITY – The remaining forests in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) will now be secured from man-made forest destruction with the deployment of some 400 former Moro rebels to serve as forest rangers, a BTA Member of Parliament (MP) today said.

BTA MP Bai Maleiha B. Candao lauded the move of Bangsamoro Chief Minister Ahod Balawag Ebrahim to deploy about 400 Bangsamoro Islamic Armed Forces (BIAF) of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) as “palaw” or forest protectors.

49 forest protectors trained to protect Alamada's remaining forest covers

ALAMADA, North Cotabato - In a bid to save the remaining forest covers of Alamada in North Cotabato, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, through the Community Environment and Natural Resources Office in Midsayap, North Cotabato have organized and trained "forest protector."

Last week, 49 Forest Protection Officers (FPOs) in Alamada have underwent a two-day orientation on environmental laws rules and regulations facilitated by the Community Environment and Natural Resources Office of Midasayap.
