Accidental migration? Australian Pelican catching fish off Sarangani

GENERAL
SANTOS, Philippines (Sept. 14) -- Fisher folks in the sub-village of Minanga in
Buayan district here regularly see fish catching bird. But about a week ago, they saw the big one
which turned out to be an Australian Pelican, a foreign avian migrant bird.

Local birds
gliding from afar to catch a fish off Gen. Santos bay every morning has been a
daily thing for 62-year-old Levy Discamento, a local resident.

All set for North Cotabato Kalivungan Festival

KIDAPAWAN CITY -- All is set for the September 1 celebration of the 102nd founding anniversary of North Cotabato province, to be capped off with activities meant to highlight the ethnicity of the local communities.
The September 1 event is the start of the week-long Kalivungan Festival” in the province, which covers 17 towns and all 40 barangays in Kidapawan City, seat of the provincial government.
North Cotabato Gov. Emmylou Mendoza on Tuesday said she is expecting national and foreign dignitaries to come and witness the festivities.

Meagan Young look-a-like Enriquez wins Kidapawan beauty pageant

KIDAPAWAN CITY -- Precious Joy Enriquez, 19-year old budding beauty bested ten other equally talented, smart and beautiful young ladies of Kidapawan as she bagged the Binibining Kalikasan title held at city gymnasium. The Meagan Young look-a-like Enriquez is the second beauty queen crowned as the city government changed the former Mutya ng Kidapawan into Binibining Kalikasan in 2015. Enriquez, is a second year civil engineering student of Notre Dame of Kidapawan College (NDKC) has long been dreaming of becoming abeauty queen, with her advocacy to protect the environment.

200 climbers clean Mt Apo of garbage left during summer

KIDAPAWAN CITY -Some 200 mountain climbers from at least six entry points in the provinces of North Cotabato and Davao del Sur in Southern Philippines have started trekking on Wednesday the trails leading to the peak of Mount Apo to collect the garbage left by trekkers last summer. Joey Recimilla, chair of the Eco-Tourism committee of the Protected Area Management Board (PAMB), said the volunteers have come from Magpet, Makilala, and Kidapawan City in North Cotabato and Santa Cruz, Bansalan, and Digos City in Davao del Sur – areas covered by the Mount Apo National Park.
