Man drowns while crossing Maguindanao river

SOUTH UPI,
Maguindanao (Sept. 2/NDBC) – Crossing major rivers even during heavy down pour
was common among indigenous peoples in this upland and visibly balding town in
Maguindanao.

Nilo Timuay, a
30-year-old farmer from the agricultural village of Kuya, has tried many times
crossing rivers amid its rampaging waters.

Teen, a PWD, dies in Cotabato shooting

COTABATO CITY
(Sept. 2/NDBC) – Police remained clueless on the identities and motive behind
the murder of an 18-year-old teenager in a remote district of Barangay Bagua,
Cotabato City Tuesday dawn.

Supt. Rolen
Balquin, Cotabato City police chief, identified the victim as Suhangi Kutongan,
a resident of Barangay Kalanganan Mother.

Balquin,
quoting a report from police station 4, policemen were patrolling Kampo Muslim,
a secluded district in Barangay Bagua mother when they heard gun bursts.

Theft robs self-employed's home, gets P35k cash, valuables

KORONADAL CITY
(Sept.1/NDBC) –- An unidentified man barged into the house of a self-employed
man, took his mobile phone and cash in Surallah, South Cotabato.

Joemar
Magbanua, 32, a resident of Aranda Subdivision, Barangay Libertad, Surallah,
South Cotabato, told police he found the robbery at past 1 a.m. Sunday.

He told police
investigators that the suspect took his Blackberry 2790 mobile phone, a Nokia
mobile phone worth P5,000 and a cash of P9,000.

Australia grants Maguindanao upland town educational aid

COTABATO CITY (Sept.1/NDBC)
– A far-flung public high school in the mountain town of Maguindanao has
received tools and equipment for dressmaking as education aid to pupils,
officials said today.

The equipment
assistance were handed over by the Australian Government through the Basic
Education Assistance for Muslim Mindanao (BEAM-ARMM) and implemented through
DepED-ARMM, to Pilar Integrated Technical Vocational High School (PITVHS) in
South Upi, Maguindanao.

ARMM hiring new teachers

COTABATO CITY
(Sept. 1/NDBC) -- The Department of Education in the autonomous Region in
Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) is hoping to fully address the perennial lack of
teachers in public schools, officials said today.

John Magno,
DepEd-ARMM assistant secretary for operations, said the more than 600 teachers
who are undergoing screening and rigid recruitment process will fill the
vacancies in remote villages of the region’s five provinces and two cities.

Guiani leads disposal of seized

COTABATO
CITY (Sept. 1/NDBC) –- The Cotabato City veterinary office on Monday torch
about 120 kilos of illegally slaughtered carabao meat seized from a vendor last
week, officials today said.
The
confiscated meat were properly disposed by burning them in front of the
Cotabato City with Cotabato City Mayor Japal Guiani Jr in attendance and other
city veterinary officials.Veterinary
doctor Robert Malcontento, city veterinarian, said the hot meat” were being
transported by a certain Titing Macandag, a resident of the town of Matanog.

Girl dies in Koronadal irrigation canal

KORONADAL CITY
(Sept. 1/NDBC) – A 3-year-old girl drowned along an irrigation canal in a
remote village here after she allegedly fell off the lining canal, her mother
said.

Lheana Mae
Antopina, resident of Purok Sampaguita, Barangay Avancena, Koronadal City was
declared dead on arrival at the South Cotabato provincial hospital Sunday.

Maguindanao floods displace 25k persons

COTABATO CITY (Sept.
1/NDBC) – About 25,000 persons have been affected by floods that hit 85
villages in Maguindanao’s 11 municipalities, the Autonomous Region in Muslim
Mindanao (ARMM) humanitarian office today said.

Lawyer Laisa Alamia,
ARMM executive secretary and chair of the Humanitarian Emergency Action Response
Team (HEART) told Radyo Bida Cotabato that despite floods brought about by
torrential rains the past few days in Maguindanao and nearby provinces, the
affected families did not leave their homes, though.

North Cotabato lady education supervisor, hubby killed in ambush

COTABATO CITY (Sept. 1/NDBC) – Two men riding tandem
on a motorbike shot dead a lady education district supervisor and her husband
along the national highway in Pikit, North Cotabato Sunday, police said today.

Inspector Mautin Pangandigan, Pikit police chief,
said Violeta Flores Almazan, education supervisor of Midsayap South district,
62 and her husband Gervacio Almazan, 63, a retired government employee, were on
a motorbike when gunmen riding tandem on separate motorbike fired at them at 5
p.m. in Barangay Dalengawen, Pikit.
