DepEd-ARMMand Floods submerge 50 Maguindanao schools

COTABATO CITY (Sept. 5/NDBC) - At least 50 public schools have been submerged by floodwater that
inundated 26 municipalities in Maguinanao, an education officials today said.

Jamar Kulayan,
Department of Education in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao
(DepEd-ARMM) regional secretary, said as a result more than 10,000 pupils and
about 200 teachers were affected.

A low pressure
area triggered torrential rains in Maguindanao and nearby provinces triggering
floods in low lying towns around the 220,000-hectare Maguindanao marshland.

Dynamite cuts Maguindanao fisherman's arm

SULTAN
MASTURA, Maguindanao (Sept.5/NDBC) – A fishermanhere has survived dynamite blast but
lost his arm when the explosive he was using prematurely exploded Thursday,
police said today.

Morka Marohom,
23, fisherman and resident of Poblacion, Mastura, is now recuperating at a
hospital here.

Police said he
was fishing along Simuay river using a dynamite when it went off prematurely as
he was preparing to set it off.

Aside from
losing his left arm, Marohom also sustained blast injuries in his face and
chest.

Datu Piang mayor convenes council to contain killings

DATU PIANG, Maguindanao
(Sept. 5/NDBC) –- Alarmed by the rash of killings in his town, Mayor Genuine
Kamaong convened the municipal peace and order council to stop violence in this
conflict ridden community, officials said today.

We need to
put a stop to this, everybody should cooperate to make our town peaceful,”
Kamaong said after the meeting.

Without
revealing in details the strategy his town is working on, Kamaong appealed to
all residents of Datu Piang locked in misunderstanding not to use violence in
settling conflict.

Maguindanao measles cases alarm health officials

COTABATO CITY (Sept
4/NDBC) – A top Health official in Maguindanao today expressed alarm over the rising
cases of measles in the province this year with nine fatalities due to
complications already recorded.

Dr. Tahir
Sulaik, Maguindanao health chief, raised his fear as the provincial health
office launched the anti-measles, anti-polio mass immunization in Maguindanao’s
46 municipalities.
