PARANG, Maguindanao (Sept. 13/NDBC) - A freak tornado hitthe coastal area of Parang, Maguindanao Friday afternoon and caught residents vendors by surprise, disaster agencysaid today.The Office of Civil Defense of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (OCD-ARMM), said the freak tornado smashed the coastal area of Barangay Magsaysay (Talipapa site), Parang, Maguindanao at 3:30 p.m. while moderate rains coupled with thunder storm and lightning.No casualty was reported.OCD-ARMM said more report to follow.

CDRRMCand Extra strong rainfall triggers Kidapawan flash floods

KIDAPAWAN CITY (Sept. 13/NDBC) –
Disaster officials here said the flash floods that hit this city’s eight
villages was due to heavy amount of rainfall Thursday night.

We are convinced the amount of
rain was the real cause of the overflowing of Nuangan river,” Psalmer Bernalte,
city disaster officer, told DXND Radyo Bida Kidapawan in Filipino.

Bernalte explained that the amount
of rainfall on Thursday night in the city reached 40 mm per hour per rain gauge
of the city disaster office.

That was extra strong rain,” he
said.

Cotabato City disasters team working 24/7

COTABATO
CITY (Sept. 13/NDBC) – Disaster officials in the city remained on alert as
rains continue up stream of Rio Grand de Mindanao and in the provinces of North
and South Cotabato.

Cynthia
Guiani-Sayadi, Cotabato City administrator, said the City Disaster Risk Reduction
and Management Council (CDRRMC) and personnel from the city social welfare
office are working 24/7.
We are not
letting our guards down, anytime water level of the city’s tributaries might
rise again, we must be prepared,” she told DXMS Radyo Bida-Cotabato.

Army considers Matalam villagers' request

KIDAPAWAN CITY
(Sept. 12/NDBC) – Army authorities are considering the request of villagers in
Matalam, North Cotabato for the establishment of an Army detachment.

Lt. Jose Carlos
Gamos, chief Charlie Company of the 7th Infantry Battalion, said the
desire of residents of Barangay Estado, Matalam, North Cotabato was valid and
being considered.

Residents have
sought Army presence in the village after armed men traded bullets last Sunday
that disrupted the quite farming community.
