BARMM wants closure to bloody attacks on public officials 

COTABATO CITY -- The Bangsamoro government has urged the police to look deeper into the series of recent gun attacks targeting public officials from Maguindanao province.


UPDATE: Gunman slain, 2 others hurt in Cotabato City shootout

COTABATO CITY - A gunman was killed while two others were wounded in a mysterious shootout with another group in a busy spot in a commercial district in Cotabato at past 3:00 PM today.

Two 1911 .45 caliber pistols and spent bullet shells were found inside the car carrying the slain gunman.


Truck nasunog, hotdog nasunog din

MAKILALA, North Cotabato - A mini-cargo truck loaded with hotdogs went on fire while traversing in Barangay Malasila at about 5:20 this morning.

Initial police investigation showed that the cargo truck was quickly engulfed by the fire.

Police said the driver and the helper told investigators the conflagration could be caused by electricical short circuit.


Taal volcano erupts, Phivolcs issues alert level 3

Itinaas na sa Alert Level 3 ang Taal Volcano.

Patuloy ang volcanic activity sa loob ng bulkan na nagdudulot ng lindol sa ilang lugar malapit dito simula kaninang ala una ng hapon, araw ng linggo.

Higit isang kilometro na ang taas ng usok na lumalabas sa bulkan. Nagkakaroon na rin ng pagbagsak ng abo dahil dito.

Bunsod nito, iniutos na ni PHIVOLCS Undersecretary Renato Solidum ang preemptive evacuation sa mga naninirahan malapit sa bulkang Taal.


State auditor assigned in Maguindanao killed in ambush

COTABATO CITY  --- Gunmen killed in an ambush here at noontime today a senior auditor of the Commission on Audit assigned in Maguindanao province.

The 60-year-old Guiaria Bagundang Akmad is a COA supervising auditor, died from multiple bullet wounds.

Akmad and her husband were together on their service vehicle when one of two men on a motorcycle trailing behind shot them with a pistol while exiting from the garage of a mall located near the Bangsamoro regional capitol at Rosary Heights area in Cotabato City.


Malacañang ‘outraged’ over death of ex-Batangas congressman

MANILA -- Malacañang expressed outrage over the killing of two persons, allegedly former Batangas 2nd District Rep. Edgar Mendoza and his aide, in Tiaong town, Quezon on Thursday.

Reports showed that the two victims were killed before their bodies were burned inside a Honda Civic that was found near a bridge in Barangay San Francisco.

“We are outraged upon learning of the dastardly murder of former Batangas 2nd District Representative Edgar Mendoza,” Presiential spokesperson Salvador Panelo said in a statement.


Soldiers, NPA rebels clash in North Cotabato

ZAMBOANGA CITY -- Government troops recovered personal belongings and a handgun following a 10-minute clash against communist New People’s Army (NPA) rebels in North Cotabato, a top military official said Thursday.

Lt. Gen. Cirilito Sobejana, Western Mindanao Command (Westmincom) chief, said the firefight broke out at dawn Wednesday in Sitio Pahidlat, Barangay Latagan, Matalam, North Cotabato.

“As the new decade begins, we are further intensifying our relentless efforts against the different threat groups in our area of operations,” Sobejana said.


DOH-12 donates P9-M to fund repairs of quake-damaged hospitals in NoCot

KIDAPAWAN CITY – The Department of Health in the Soccsksargen region has joined the bandwagon in helping North Cotabato rise from the rubbles of three major earthquakes that rocked the province last year.

Dr. Aristides Concepcion Tan, DOH-12 regional director, paid a visit to the office of North Cotabato Gov. Nancy Catamco in Barangay Amas, Kidapawan City on Wednesday and informed her of the DOH program for two hospitals in the province.


No Filipino hurt in missile strikes targeting US bases in Iraq

MANILA -- No Filipino was hurt in the Iranian missile strike that targeted two military bases in Iraq housing American troops, Department of Foreign Affairs Secretary (DFA) Teodoro Locsin Jr. said Wednesday.

"So far, US said no Filipinos found to have been hurt. But search and damage assessment not complete," Locsin said on his Twitter account, citing information from the Philippine Embassy in Washington DC.


Iran attacks US military bases in Iraq

Iran has launched "more than a dozen" ballistic missiles against two Iraqi military bases housing U.S. forces, the Pentagon said Tuesday. Iran said the attack was in retaliation to the airstrike that killed Iranian General Qassem Soleimani, one of the most powerful figures in the Islamic Republic.
