The Philippine Province of the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate warns everyone that a certain (probably hacked) Facebook account of Msgr. Mariano Balbago Jr. is soliciting money for the ordination to the priesthood on February 5 of a certain Rev. Eric Quimbo who is purportedly a member of the Oblates of Mary Immaculate. Our Congregation hereby makes this official statement:

1) That the Oblates of Mary Immaculate does not have any seminarian or deacon at present with the name of Eric Quimbo.

MANILA – Pope Francis has appointed Rev. Msgr. Arnaldo Sanchez Catalan as the new Apostolic Nuncio to Rwanda, the Archdiocese of Manila said on Monday.

Manila Archbishop Jose Cardinal Advincula said the Pope announced Catalan’s appointment on January 31.

In a statement, Advincula expressed gratitude to the Holy Father “for this gift and honor and considers the appointment of Archbishop-elect Catalan as historic being the first priest of the Archdiocese of Manila to become a Nuncio.”

A Catholic bishop in southern Philippines announced a 40-day fasting and penitence as the nation continues to grapple with the pandemic.

Bishop Moises Cuevas, the apostolic administrator of Zamboanga, made the declaration “in solidarity with those who suffer readily the effects of the pandemic”.

The days of fasting and penance will begin on Oct. 13 with the tolling of church bells across the archdiocese at 8pm followed by the praying of the rosary.

Cuevas said a catechesis on this period is to be held in the weeks preceding the penitential activities.

The Catholic Church’s social action arm has rallied behind the Commission on Audit after the agency received a tirade from President Rodrigo Duterte for flagging possible misuse of government funds.

Caritas Philippines lauded the firm stance of state auditors in reporting to the public the government’s use of public funds.

Its national director Bishop Jose Colin Bagaforo urged the people to support COA in flagging misuses and abuses of public funds “to finally serve justice”.

MANILA - POPE Francis on Tuesday appointed Monsignor Noel Pedregosa, currently the diocesan administrator of Malaybalay, as the new bishop of the diocese.

Monsignor Pedregoza's appointment was announced in Rome at 12 noon (6:00pm Philippine time).

In Manila, the appointment of Monsignor Pedregosa was announced by Papal nuncio Archbishop Charles Brown before Mass for the Feast of Sts. Peter and Paul at the Manila Cathedral.

A native of Mlang, North Cotabato, Pedregosa was ordained a priest for Malaybalay in 1991.

Pope Francis has recently appointed a Filipino missionary priest as the new bishop of the diocese of Daru-Kiunga in Papua New Guinea.

Bishop-elect Joseph Tarife Durero, 53, of the Society of Divine Word will replace Canadian Bishop Gilles Côté of the Missionaries of the Company of Mary, who served the post for 22 years.

The pope accepted the resignation Côté after he reached the mandatory retirement age of 75 in November.

The appointment of Durero, until now the vicar general of the archdiocese of Madang on the nation’s north coast, was announced in Rome on May 23.
