15 NPAs yield to gov’t forces in Sultan Kudarat
LEBAK, Sultan Kudarat – Fifteen communist rebels who belonged to Indigenous Peoples (IPs) operating in the mountains of Sultan Kudarat have surrendered to police and military authorities today.
Brig. Gen. Eliseo Tam Rasco, regional director for Region 12, said the members of New Peoples Army (NPA) Platoon Cherry Mobile of Guerilla Front 73 operating in the mountains of Kalamansig, Lebak, Palimbang and Sen. Ninoy Aquino, all in Sultan Kudarat voluntarily surrendered to the government during ceremonies at provincial capitol extension here.
They were received by Sultan Kudarat police director Colonel Reynaldo Celestino, Police Mobile Force 12 commander Lt. Colonel Barney Condes, Marine Brig. Gen. Eugenio Hernandez, commander 1st Marine Brigade and Lebak Mayor Dionesio Besana during the 11 a.m. ceremonies.
Rasco said the rebels turned in one M-16 Armalite rifle, a cal. 30 Garand rifle, two M-14 rifle, one home-made rifle, one 12-gauge shot gun, two cal. 45 pistol, one homemade Ingram machine pistol and two M-79 grenade launchers and ammunition.
Rasco said the surrenderees are now undergoing custodial debriefing and documentation for their enrolment to the Expanded Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-CLIP) for rebel returnees.
