2-classroom building damaged in Kidapawan City school fire
KIDAPAWAN CITY - Arson investigators are still determining the cause of the fire that gutted down a 2-classroom building inside a public elementary school here Friday afternoon.
Kidapawan City Schools Division Supt. Romelito Flores said the 2-classroom building of Isidoro Lonzaga Memorial Elementary School sa Barangay Magsaysay, Kidapawan City went on fire at about 4 p.m.
Flores said the damaged school building are for Grades 4 and 5.
Flores said teachers and students noticed a spark at the ceiling of the classrooms before the conflagration. The students were already out of the building when the fire erupted.
Firefighters declared fire out at about 5 p.m.
Flores said on Monday, the affected students will have temporary learning center at the school’s gymnasium.
Flores also announced that each school within the Kidapawan City School district agreed to donate one or two plastic arm chairs to be used by the affected Grades 4 and 5 pupils on Monday.
"Classrooms were burned down but our desire to teach as teachers wasn't burned," Flores during the meeting he conducted at the site of the fire incident Saturday.
"Inspite of the incident, classes will continue on Monday, June 24, for the affected learners, grade 4 and 5," he added.
Division personalities, Mr. Remegio G. Orias, Mr. Bernardo B. Daquio, Mrs. Soledad Leyrita, Mrs. Shirley S. Dua, Ms. Roxanne G. Ocon, some staff of the division, Ilmes teaching force were in attendance.
On April 3, a fire also hit a school building in Pikit, North Cotabato hours before the school’s graduation ceremonies.
On June 6, fire broke out at a building of the Padega Elementary School, damaging four classrooms.
